1)ZviriMudzimba
ZviriMudzimba is a dialogue that encourages women to talk about the state of their homes/communities and the challenges they face. Together we figure out which areas need mitigation and what needs to be done. Issues that are mainly common are child marriages, gender based violence, unemployment, women’s health, relationships, sanitation and Sexual health reproductive rights( SHRR) amongst other.
2)Annual Unsung Heroes and Heroines Awards
Not all heroes/ heroines wear capes. We have men and women in our communities that are playing pivotal roles yet their efforts go unnoticed. They use their resources to make life better and easier for the next person. Annually, we go out in search of such people and we honor them for their efforts. The first awards ceremony was held in 2015 in Harare at Crowne Plaza
2016 in Mutare at Holiday Inn
2017 in Harare at Jameson Hotel
2018’s awards ceremony will be the 4’th edition of this project and the function will be hosted in Mutare. We encourage all those who are able to partner with us to support the great work that is being carried out in the communities by self less indivividuals.
3)Lend a hand (L.A.H)
We have grandparents that are struggling, yet they have to share the little they have with abandoned grandchildren. Sometimes these children’s parents’ are late leaving grandparents to take care of these families and Wakati Trust tries to support such people. We support them with anything from clothes to food stuffs. Winter is a bad season for these beneficiaries as they need more food and warm clothing during such a season. The need is great and sometimes we never have enough.Kindly get in touch with us if you want to support this initiative.
4)Catch them young( Mentorship programme)
We believe in the training up a child as they grow notion. Instilling values that will help them grow responsibly. We take time to do school visits where we get a chance of having open dialogues with students on different topics like careers, sex, relationships, health, school perfomance, abuse, child marriages etc. We also encourage students to do something about the needs they see in their communities.
Amongst the school visits we do, ( as seen in pictures below), we had the chance of talking to Eastern Heights Students and we were emphasizing to them that beginning with the #EndInMind means starting each day, task, or project with a clear vision of your desired direction and destination, and then continue by flexing proactive muscles to make things happen.
We handed over sanitary wear to their Interact Club for them to take to the vulnerable girls they support.Arnold Lyan AKA Saigo(upcoming Mutare born artist) graced the students with a track that carried a powerful message for the youth.
We left the students with 3 principles below:
a)Create a vision board
– where you put all your plans, Your dream job, car, house, career etc
-pray for your vision
-strategise on how to achieve your vision board
b)Get a mentor
-Someone you look up to, someone who will help to keep you focused on your goal
c)Be principled
– winners are not made in the ring therefore one has to start NOW…..watch your circle, carry yourself in a responsible manner.
5) Justice for all
Wakati Trust AGAINST INJUSTICE
We are pleased to announce a partnership with local law firm in terms of which the needy who cannot afford legal advice will on Wakati Trust recommendation access free legal advice under the Bere Brother pro bono scheme. The Wakati team received para legal training to enable them to serve better. Please tell someone and save them.
6)Sanitary Wear Distribution
Menstruation can be a significant financial burden and an inconvenience. It can be an unbearable hardship that drastically affects girls’ ability to attend school and eventually her future. Access to education for girls can be improved by increasing access to sanitary wear amongst other.
We always support our girls not only with sanitary wear, we also provide menstrual hygiene lessons. Some of them do not even know how to use pads.
We teach them how to manage menstruation in a way that doesn’t put them at risk of infections that will go untreated. It’s about reproductive health, and keeping girls healthy through puberty so that they have a greater chance of surviving childbirth, and so that their future babies are born healthy. This knowledge also helps to keep girls safe from unwanted pregnancies and they get to understand the connection between menstruation and fertility.
( seen in the picture below is the Wakati Trust Team distributing sanitary wear to Simukai team for their beneficiaries)
7)Empowerment Programme
Our mission is to change lives positively. A number of times people struggle to set up businesses so as to lift their families out of poverty. Wakati Trust partnered with a local bank to improve the lives of Manicaland residents through loan disbursement.
(As seen in pictures) We take time going through all the required processes for beneficiaries to get capital to inject into their current businesses and/ start up businesses. We are always looking out for more partners as the need is great.
